A US Congressman, Riley Moore, has expressed concern over the recent killings in Plateau State, warning that continued attacks on Christians in Nigeria could strain relations between the two countries.
Moore made the statement following the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Jos, where at least 10 Christians were killed in Anguwan Rukuba.
Reacting in a post on X, the lawmaker described the incident as part of a troubling pattern of violence targeting Christians during religious celebrations, noting that such attacks appear to occur repeatedly on significant holy days.
Moore said that “on Palm Sunday, in two brazen attacks, at least 53 Christians were murdered by Islamic radical terrorists in Nigeria,” stressing that the situation reflects escalating insecurity.
He further stated that President Donald Trump had previously warned that if the Nigerian government fails to address what he described as “genocide,” the United States would intervene.
“The persecution and slaughter of our brothers and sisters in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ must end now,” Moore added.
The comments come amid renewed international attention on security challenges in parts of Nigeria, particularly in the North-Central region, where recurring communal and sectarian violence has led to significant loss of lives and displacement of residents.
