TimeTestedInfo ||There’ll be month-long power outage in Benin – BEDC

  • UNIBEN’ll be affected

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has announced a scheduled one-month electricity outage, which will affect several communities across Edo State.

The utility company, in a statement released on Thursday, said the disruption is due to scheduled maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the 330kV Benin/Ajaokuta Line 2 at the Ihovbor Transmission Station.

According to BEDC, the blackout will commence on February 27, 2026, and continue until March 31, 2026.

The feeders impacted by the maintenance include the Egba, Oluku, UNIBEN, and Ihovbor 33kV lines. As a result, areas expected to experience power interruptions include UNIBEN and its surrounding communities, Ugbowo, Oluku, Upper Sakponba, Ihovbor, Egba, and neighbouring locations.

While the DisCo apologised to residents of the State, it explained that the maintenance is aimed at strengthening transmission capacity, improving electricity supply to the national grid, and enhancing overall service reliability.

The outage comes at a time Nigeria’s power sector continues to grapple with persistent challenges, including reduced generation caused by gas supply shortages and seasonal constraints.
