Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) after dissolving his cabinet, in preparation to start a second term in office.
Soludo made the announcement on Monday during a final meeting with political appointees who served in his administration during his first four-year tenure.
At the meeting, the governor confirmed the removal of the former SSG, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, who also served under former Governor Willie Obiano.
In his place, the governor appointed Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, 39, a former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, as the new SSG.
Nnake, according to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, is a seasoned finance and public sector professional with over 13 years of experience in finance, strategy development, and economic planning.
She hails from Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area.
The development comes days after Soludo, following his inauguration for a second term, directed all political appointees to submit their handover notes to the most senior civil servants or permanent secretaries in their respective offices.
Addressing the outgoing officials, the governor expressed appreciation for their service, while apologising for any disagreements during their time in office.
He particularly commended the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okeoma, for his diligence and contributions to infrastructure development in the State.
Soludo said his administration recorded significant socio-economic transformation during its first term and assured that the next four years would witness even greater developmental strides.
He also presented commendation letters to members of the dissolved executive council, wishing them well in their future endeavours.
As part of the restructuring, the governor disclosed that some agencies may be scrapped, including the Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA), following the transfer of waste management responsibilities to the 21 local government councils.
He further announced that the position of Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, has been declared vacant.
Similarly, the Managing Director of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Ozo Greg Ezeilo, has been relieved of his duties, with the position now vacant.
However, details of the new cabinet are yet to be made public, as sources indicated that the governor is expected to announce additional appointments soon.
