Two candidates have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), during the ongoing police recruitment screening in Bauchi state, for allegedly presenting forged results from the National Examinations Council (NECO).

The suspects were apprehended at the Police Training School Bauchi during the screening exercise.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Command, Nafiu Habib, the suspects allegedly presented identical fake ‘O’ Level certificates bearing the same name, registration number and examination year.

Habib explained that the two candidates, both identified as Yusuf Usman, had been moving together throughout the recruitment screening process before their documents were discovered to be forged at the final stage of the exercise.

The spokesperson said the screening was led by A.Y. Dickson and covered a total of 403 candidates, comprising 354 applicants for general duty and 49 specialists.

“The team screened 354 General Duty and 49 Specialists, making a total of 403 candidates.

“Two candidates were arrested with forged NECO results, both named Yusuf Usman, and they were moving together throughout the process,” he said.

Habib added that the team leader subsequently directed that the suspects be handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of ‘E’ Division for further investigation.

He also cautioned applicants against engaging in fraudulent acts during recruitment exercises.

The screening forms part of the ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise by the Nigeria Police Force to enlist 50,000 police constables, which commenced on Monday.
