Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has directed the fast-tracking of processes for the flag-off of the Aba Commercial Smart City Project, describing the initiative as a potential game changer for the state’s economy.

Otti gave the directive during a meeting with the leadership of the Aba Commercial Smart City Project at the Government House in Umuahia, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the project moves from the planning stage to implementation.
The governor charged all partners involved in the project to expedite the necessary processes for its immediate flag-off and successful delivery.
According to him, the administration would only undertake projects it was determined to complete, stressing that Abia would not allow projects to be abandoned.
“In Abia, we do not believe in abandoned projects. We only embark on projects that we are determined to complete,” Otti said.
The governor also directed the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion Office, Chinedu Chijioke, to work closely with the project team to ensure the state is adequately prepared for the flag-off.
Otti commended the Chief Executive Officer of the Aba Commercial Smart City, former Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, for his contribution to the project, saying the initiative aligns with the administration’s vision of restoring Aba to its position as a leading commercial centre.
He also acknowledged the roles of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, former Inspector-General of Police, Sir Dr Mike Okiro, and the Founder and President of the project, Ambassador Osita Offor, popularly known as the “Ultimate Commander.”

The governor said the project team had presented a financially realistic framework for its implementation, adding that an initial ₦20 billion had been secured through financial advisers and partnering banks to commence the project.
“The team also informed us that, through their financial adviser and partnering banks, they have secured an initial N20 billion to commence the project,” he said.
Otti described the Aba Commercial Smart City as a major opportunity for Abia, particularly because of its focus on technology, innovation and strategic partnerships.
“The Aba Commercial Smart City promises to be a game changer for our state,” the governor said, adding that his administration remains committed to making the vision a reality for Ndi Abia and future generations.
