- NANS appeals for pardon
The Madonna University Nigeria has expelled some student nurses over a viral video recorded at a hospital, prompting the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to appeal to the institution to reconsider the punishment.
The students reportedly came under disciplinary action after a video they made in the hospital surfaced online and attracted widespread attention.
The caption accompanying the video read, “No sick oo, nah Gen Z full hospital.”
NANS, while acknowledging that the students’ conduct was inappropriate, appealed to the university management to replace the expulsion with a stern warning.
The students’ action was described as misconduct, but NANS urged the institution to consider the impact of the expulsion on their education and future careers.

The students are nursing undergraduates whose training involves clinical postings and hospital-based learning.
In its appeal, NANS asked Madonna University to show clemency and allow the affected students to continue their studies under strict disciplinary conditions.
The students could also be required to sign undertakings against repeating such conduct, while being subjected to further disciplinary measures if they violate the conditions.
NANS said the punishment should be corrective rather than permanently disrupting the students’ academic careers.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the conduct of students on social media, particularly when videos recorded in sensitive environments such as hospitals are published online.
The university has yet to publicly announce whether it will review the expulsion or accept the students’ appeal.
