The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to brief Nigerians on Tuesday on its preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the country reaching the 100-day mark to the polls.
The commission said the briefing would cover major areas of its preparations, including the voters’ register, nomination of candidates, election logistics and safeguards being introduced to protect the credibility of the exercise.
The briefing is scheduled to take place during a World Press Conference on October 6, 2026, in Abuja. It will be held alongside a National Stakeholders’ Meeting.
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to the commission, it “will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.”
The INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, is expected to lead the briefing, with other key actors in the electoral process also participating.
The events will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, BAT-ICC, Abuja.
The stakeholders’ meeting is expected to attract representatives of political parties, security agencies operating under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) members of the diplomatic community, development partners, civil society organisations and election observers.
Representatives of disability rights groups, religious and traditional institutions, youth organisations and the media are also expected to attend.
INEC said the engagement is designed to improve transparency and communication as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections, while giving stakeholders a broader opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
The commission said the meeting “underlines the Commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem.”
