Some personnel of the Lagos Police Command have landed in trouble after there were exposed by hidden camera while extorting a dispatch rider.

They are of the Makinde Divisional Headquarters and are now under investigation, following the dispatch rider’s allegation that they took N20,000 from him.

The video that captured that extortion of the dispatch rider has been circulating online.

“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of the video and has commenced an investigation into the incident,” a police statement on the case read.

“In line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, the officers involved have reported at the Command Headquarters and are currently being interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation,” it said.

“The Command assures the public that the investigation is ongoing and appropriate action will be taken based on its findings,” the statement added.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, had issued a warning to Commissioners of Police nationwide against a number of offences including illegal detention, corruption, extortion, abuse of office and other forms of misconduct.

He did so at the Police Strategic Managers Meeting in Abuja, where he added tht effective policing depended on professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights and strict adherence to due process.

He had also urged newly promoted senior officers to lead with integrity, fairness and zero tolerance for unethical conduct.
