Swift Telephone Network Limited (STN) has secured a Unified Access Service Licence (UASL) from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) formally entering Nigeria’s telecoms market as an independent operator.
The licence marks a transition for STN from its humble beginnings as a telephone call service operating under an umbrella structure, to a full-fledged Nigerian telecoms company set to build next-generation digital infrastructure.
CEO of STN, Oluwole Adetuyi, described the approval as more than a regulatory clearance.
“This UASL is not just a licence. It is a new chapter. It represents where we started, what we have endured, how we have evolved, and where we are going. We are building in Nigeria, for Nigeria,” he said.
Under the UASL regime, STN is now authorised to provide a comprehensive range of services — including fixed, mobile, voice and data — across Nigeria.
Adetuyi said the achievement demonstrates the resilience of home-grown businesses.
“They can evolve, compete globally, and build institutions of lasting value from Nigeria. At a time when the digital economy is central to national growth, STN is proof that local ambition, backed by resilience, can deliver world-class infrastructure,” he noted.
He said STN’s focus going forward will be on building a truly Nigerian telecoms ecosystem, anchored on skills development for engineers and digital professionals, partnerships with local vendors and contractors, collaboration with global tech firms to deepen indigenous capacity, infrastructure rollout to expand access and bridge the digital divide, and job creation across distribution, retail and support services.
“Our ambition is simple: to help build Nigeria’s digital economy from the ground up. This licence gives us the platform. Nigerian talent, Nigerian partners, and Nigerian innovation will give us the momentum,” Adetuyi added.
The company disclosed that it will in coming weeks unveil strategic partnerships, rollout plans and stakeholder engagement programmes as it begins commercial operations under the new licence.
