Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is currently receiving medical treatment in London, according to multiple sources cited by PREMIUM TIMES.
The 82-year-old ex-president, who completed two terms and left office on May 29, 2023, has been overseas since April, the leading online news outlet reported exclusively.
Sources close to the Buhari family revealed that he initially traveled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up but subsequently fell ill.
Buhari’s longtime spokesperson, Garba Shehu, confirmed the situation when reached for comment.
“Following your enquiry, I wish to state as follows: It is true that the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, is unwell. He has been receiving treatment in the UK,” Shehu said.
“You would recall he made it known that he was going for his annual medical check-up. He became ill there, but I am happy to announce to you that he is doing well in his recovery while receiving treatment. We pray for his healthy recovery,” he added.
The nature of Buhari’s illness and the name of the hospital where he is being treated have not been disclosed.
