  • Raises new crime response squad

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the disbandment of all tactical teams operating within the command, as part of a broader reform aimed at strengthening professionalism, operational efficiency, and public trust in policing.

The move follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu.

As part of the restructuring, all previously existing tactical units have been merged into a single specialised formation known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The new unit is expected to provide a more coordinated and rapid response to incidents of violent crime across the state.

Spokesperson of the Command, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, explained that the VCRU is tasked with responding swiftly and decisively to criminal threats, while strictly observing established rules of engagement and upholding fundamental human rights.

The command also issued a stern warning against misconduct, including extortion and abuse of office, stressing that officers found guilty of violating the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct and professional ethics will face disciplinary measures.

Reassuring residents, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and called on members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities and unprofessional conduct.

“The Rivers State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to deliver effective, accountable, and people-centered policing,” an official statement added.
