TimeTestedInfo ||Catholic Laity Council urges Nigerians to be active in politics

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria (CLCN) has advised the Catholic community and indeed all Nigerians to not just obtain their voters’ cards but join political parties.

The CLCN made the appeal in a statement jointly signed on Tuesday by its National President, Sir Ambrose Obioha and National Secretary-General, Mr. Francis Ojo Oloyinka.

The Council said with over 35million members, it cannot stand aloof during the electioneering process.

It announced the launch of an extensive voter registration drive, organized under the auspices of the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria and its dedicated arm, the Catholic Social Forum.

The statement said: “As you are aware, the 2027 general election is approximately one year from now.

“Consequently, political activities have started gaining momentum as political parties have commenced physical and online registration of members across the country.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is also engaging stakeholders on how to organize free, fair, credible and transparent elections.

“Catholic Church in Nigeria, with over 35million members, is no doubt, one of the biggest stakeholders in the Nigerian project, therefore, cannot stand aloof during the electioneering process.”
