The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, has directed a full investigation into the tragic death of five children in the Agyaragu community, Obi Local Government Area.
This directive was announced in a statement issued on Monday in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel.
According to the statement, the children’s lifeless bodies were discovered inside a disused vehicle parked at the residence of one Mr. Abu Agyeme. The discovery was reported to police around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025, by a resident, Mr. Ozimna Ogbor, who said the victims were aged between six and ten.
Police officers responding to the call found the children locked inside the abandoned vehicle. They were rushed to Aro Hospital in Agyaragu, where a doctor confirmed their deaths, attributing the likely cause to suffocation.
The Commissioner expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the grieving families. He also urged parents, guardians, and vehicle owners to remain vigilant and prevent children from accessing unattended vehicles.
“This tragic loss serves as a painful reminder of a similar incident that occurred in August 2019,” Nansel stated, adding that due to severe heat burns, the remains of the children were released to their families for burial following their request.
