Ondo SSG, Abegunde, Resigns, May Join PDP

After weeks of speculation, the Secretary to Ondo State Government, Mr Ifedayo Abegunde (Abena), has resigned from the government of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

In the past few weeks, Abegunde was rumoured to be working with the state Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi on how to realise his governorship ambition on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Abegunde personally confirmed the news on telephone this morning.

“Yes it is true, I have resigned my appointment as Ondo State SSG this morning. It is true my brother.”

Mr Abegunde, who tendered his resignation letter on Monday morning, said he resigned his position for “personal reasons”.

He revealed that he had tried his best for the Governor Rotimi Aleredolu-led government and it was time for him to leave.

He said, “I have resigned from the government and I am no longer a member of the cabinet.

“I will make further comment when the time is ripe for me to talk on resignation.”

The SSG said his next line of action politically would be communicated within the next 24 hours.

Asked if he would be defecting from the All Progressives Congress, the SSG said, “I have just told you I have resigned and nothing more.”

However, sources close to Mr Abegunde disclosed that there had been a frosty relationship between him and the governor.

One of the sources disclosed that the SSG would soon join the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the October 10 governorship election in the state.
