The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has highlighted its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) in a recent workshop led by the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NCCC), under the Office of the National Security Adviser.
In his keynote address, Dr. Aminu Maida lauded the CNII Executive Order recently signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a landmark directive aimed at fortifying digital and communication infrastructure. Expressing gratitude to President Tinubu, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy Dr. Bosun Tijani, Maida emphasized the challenges in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
These include recurrent fiber optic vandalism, theft, and restrictive access to essential facilities, which cost the sector billions of Naira and hinder network expansion.
Maida announced the NCC’s priority to raise awareness and foster collaboration with industry stakeholders to ensure robust, secure connectivity across Nigeria.
This initiative, supported by the Executive Order, aligns with the nation’s goals to reach 70% broadband penetration by 2025 and contribute 22% to the GDP by 2027.
“This workshop marks a collaborative approach to bridge connectivity gaps and fortify critical assets, ultimately driving economic growth and safeguarding Nigeria’s digital future,” he concluded.
