Comrade Bello Shagari, former President, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), and chairmanship aspirant in the forthcoming Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), the election has called for an end to the long dominance of old politicians in the Area Council, urging them to prepare to surrender power to the younger generation.

Shagari, who is aspiring for AMAC Chairman under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), issued the warning Tuesday at the party’s National Secretariat shortly after undergoing screening to contest the position.

The former youth leader boasted that the youths, backed by the “Not too young to run” law are now better prepared and equipped to handle leadership positions and to wrestle power from the older generation”.

Shagari, who frowned at exclusion of youths in politics and governance system in the country over the years, noted that the passage and accent to the “Not too young to run” bill in 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari has opened up the political space and truly paved ways for young Nigerians to test the waters of partisan politics.
“Under this administration, we are beginning to see the involvement of young people in governance with the likes of Ahmed Bashir, Ismail Ahmed, and more recently the appointment of EFCC chairman.
